Exciting Orienteering Opportunity: "The Great Map Race"

"The Great Map Race" is an event for families and school groups to give
them a fun introduction to orienteering.

It will happen in Hagley Park on Sunday 14th June from 10-1pm.

Turn up any time between those times and stay as long or little as you want! Suitable for all ages, even babies in buggies!

It is being run as a fund raiser for 5 Canterbury under 21 Juniors who have been selected to be in the New Zealand team to compete in the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Norway in July. The NZ team is 6 boys 6 girls, so these 5 Canterbury juniors are a large proportion of the ful team!

A range of activities will be available including an introductory orienteering course, a rogaine and a maze with electronic timing!

See attached flyer for details.

To help with map printing numbers, please email your numbers to jean.corywright@gmail.com

But don't worry if you forget to do this, you can still turn up!

Join us in a fun way to support these great young people!

So here we have Xavier Beks one of are star athletes at Waimairi school.

How did you go ?

um I did good because I won.

What did you win ?

The 80 meter sprints.

What else did you compete in and how did you go in it ?

I did long jump and I got 5th.

How far did you jump and do you think you could do better ?

um I jumped 4.32 and yeah because I missed out on 3rd by three cm.

Wow thats awesome what a jump but you missed out thats too bad.

Whats your goal for next time ?

To get into top three for long jump.

Other than long jump and sprints what are you good at ? high jump because two weeks ago I jumped 1.31m and if I jumped the same hight as I did 2 weeks ago I would of came third in centrals in 10 year olds.

that was our interview with Xavier hope he wins next time at long jump.
